Alcoholism
Alcohol addiction or alcoholism is defined as the inability to continuously function without the use of alcohol. Regardless of how an alcohol addiction begins and despite the length or intensity of alcohol consumption, at some point, an addict finds him or herself wholly reliant on alcohol in order to wake, work, interact with others, and carry out modest tasks.
It is further defined as a powerlessness to stop drinking regardless of desire and despite the gravity of the consequences of alcohol consumption such as the loss of trust and support of friends and family, loss of a job, catastrophic and life threatening health issues, a failing marriage or divorce, loss of parental rights, financial ruin, and homelessness.
