Drug Addiction
Drug Addiction is defined as the inability to continuously function without the use of mind altering substances. Regardless of how an addiction begins and despite the length or intensity of drug use, at some point, an addict finds him or herself wholly reliant on their drug of choice in order to wake, work, interact with others, and carry out modest tasks.
It is further defined as a powerlessness to stop drug use regardless of desire and despite the gravity of the consequences of addiction such as the loss of trust and support of friends and family, loss of a job, catastrophic and life threatening health issues, a failing marriage or divorce, loss of parental rights, financial ruin, and homelessness.
