Relapse
Relapse is defined as a return to drug or alcohol use after any length of sobriety. While some individuals may be able to sustain a sober life style following treatment or rehab, for many addicts in recovery, a single relapse or a period of chronic relapse is common.
One of the primary causes of relapse is that often the transition from a highly controlled intensive treatment or rehab program to self-directed living is too abrupt and many individuals lack the critical sober life skills necessary to negotiate real world sobriety
